David Steiner Named New USPS Postmaster General: What Parcel Shippers Should Know
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors has announced the appointment of David Steiner as the 76th Postmaster General and CEO of the United States Postal Service. Steiner, pending final background and ethics clearance, will assume the role in July 2025. He succeeds former Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and Acting Postmaster General Doug Tulino, who will return to his role as Deputy Postmaster General.
Steiner is best known for leading Waste Management as CEO for 12 years, where he transformed operations, introduced strategic innovation, and improved financial performance. His experience also includes roles on the boards of FedEx, Vulcan Materials, and AMP, giving him deep insight into logistics, transportation, and sustainability.
According to Amber McReynolds, Chair of the USPS Board of Governors, “Dave is the right person to lead the Postal Service at this time.” Steiner himself stated his commitment to upholding the public service mission of USPS while collaborating with employees, unions, customers, and policymakers.
Implications for Parcel Shippers
- Operational Focus: Steiner’s track record suggests USPS will continue improving delivery efficiency and reliability.
- Service Innovation: Expect potential updates in USPS parcel products, pricing, and digital tools under his leadership.
- Industry Collaboration: His logistics experience may foster more collaboration with commercial shippers and partners.
With continued e-commerce growth and evolving last-mile demands, Steiner’s leadership could redefine USPS’s role in the parcel shipping landscape. Shippers should stay alert for strategic shifts in USPS service and pricing policies.
