OnTrac shipping rates, surcharges and cost guides

OnTrac is a regional ground parcel carrier serving residential and business addresses across much of the United States, with its roots in the West and a network that has grown east and into the middle of the country. It prices like the national carriers: a base rate by weight and zone, plus residential, delivery area, handling and fuel charges. OnTrac’s 2026 list rates took effect on January 3, 2026, and most shippers with volume pay negotiated rates below them. This page collects the published numbers and links to our detailed guides.

OnTrac 2026 list rates
A selection of OnTrac’s published base rates, before residential, fuel and other surcharges. The weight is the billable weight: dimensional weight, and the minimum billable weights that come with handling and large package charges, can put a package in a higher row than its actual weight. The full table runs from 1 to 150 lb.

| 5 lb | $14.06 | $15.62 | $17.06 | $18.53 | $19.26 | $20.47 | $21.69 |
| 10 lb | $15.85 | $16.98 | $18.56 | $20.46 | $21.10 | $23.83 | $26.29 |
| 20 lb | $19.20 | $21.47 | $22.32 | $27.47 | $31.99 | $39.07 | $43.52 |
| 30 lb | $23.02 | $27.25 | $30.08 | $36.03 | $45.40 | $52.96 | $62.08 |

OnTrac’s list rates sit very close to UPS’s. We compared every cell of the two tables, 1 to 150 lb in zones 2 to 8, against the 2026 UPS Ground daily rates (the edition updated May 10, 2026), as (OnTrac rate − UPS rate) ÷ UPS rate. Of the 1,050 cells, OnTrac is lower in 190, equal in 207 and higher in 653, ranging from 1.9% below to 3.1% above, with an average of 0.9% above. That compares tariff cells with the same weight and zone number; a given ZIP pair can fall in different zones at the two carriers, so a lane comparison needs each carrier’s zone chart. The differences between the two carriers come from the surcharges, the fuel percentage and, above all, the discounts each will negotiate. Our OnTrac vs UPS comparison works through it.

Source: OnTrac surcharges and rates page, read October 28, 2026. Additional handling applies to a package over 48 in on the longest side, 30 in on the second side, 50 lb actual weight or 8,640 cubic inches; to one not fully encased in corrugated cardboard, or a cylindrical item not boxed to stop it rolling; to one routed through OnTrac’s irregular package sortation; and to any other package OnTrac determines needs special handling, which can appear on an invoice as “Irregular Shape/Package”. It carries a 40 lb minimum billable weight. Large package applies over 72 in, 110 lb or 17,280 cubic inches, with a 90 lb minimum billable weight. The charges do not stack: additional handling is not assessed when a large package, over maximum limits or unauthorized charge applies, and neither additional handling nor large package is assessed with an over maximum limits or unauthorized charge. Pickup, credit card payment and late payment fees are on OnTrac’s page.
The additional handling and large package charges have been priced by zone since March 7, 2026, a change covered in our post on OnTrac’s AHS and LPS updates. Delivery area ZIP codes change periodically; our post on the OnTrac area surcharge ZIP code update explains how to check yours. For what changed at the start of the year, see our summary of the OnTrac 2026 general rate increase.
What an OnTrac shipment costs
A residential package with a 10 lb billable weight to zone 5, at list rates on the national fuel schedule in the week of October 26, 2026, with no delivery area, handling, signature or other charges: base $20.46, residential $6.60, demand residential $1.00, fuel at 26.75% $7.51, total $35.57. The fuel guide shows the calculation step by step, and the demand guide shows the same package outside the holiday season.
Getting better than list rates
OnTrac says it offers significant discounts based on volume, and its pricing is negotiated in the same way as UPS and FedEx: a discount on the base rates, separate terms on residential and delivery area charges, sometimes a fuel concession, and minimums. Adding OnTrac as a second carrier on lanes it serves well is also one of the strongest ways to improve terms with an incumbent carrier. Our parcel contract negotiation service prices those options against your own shipments.
Frequently asked questions
Does OnTrac publish its rates?
Yes. OnTrac publishes a list rate table and its surcharge schedule on its surcharges and rates page. Most shippers with regular volume pay negotiated rates set in their agreement.
Is OnTrac cheaper than UPS?
Not meaningfully on base list rates: cell by cell, OnTrac’s are within about 2% below to 3% above UPS Ground’s daily rates. OnTrac can be cheaper on its lower national fuel percentage, on additional handling triggered by weight (UPS is lower when the trigger is a dimension), and on a negotiated agreement. It depends on your lanes, zones and package profile. Our OnTrac vs UPS comparison prices matched shipments.
Does OnTrac charge a residential surcharge?
Yes, $6.60 per package in 2026, plus a $1.00 demand residential charge from October 24, 2026 to January 15, 2027.
