UPS to Revise Large Package and Handling Fees in August 2025

Effective August 17, 2025, UPS will make important changes to how it applies Large Package Surcharges (LPS) and Additional Handling Charges (AHC) on domestic shipments. These updates may significantly impact shippers who handle oversized or heavyweight items.

What’s Changing?

🔹 Large Package Surcharge (LPS)

UPS will no longer apply LPS using the traditional length + girth method. Instead, LPS will apply to any domestic package that meets either of these conditions:

Cubic size exceeds 17,280 cubic inches
Weight exceeds 110 lbs

All other existing criteria, such as length, will remain in effect.

LPS Rates by Zone

Commercial Packages:

Zone 2: $205.00
Zone 3–4: $225.00
Zone 5–6: $250.00
Zone 7+: $260.00

Residential Packages:

Zone 2: $240.00
Zone 3–4: $260.00
Zone 5–6: $297.50
Zone 7+: $305.00

🔹 Additional Handling Charge (AHC)

UPS will also stop using the length + girth method for AHC. Moving forward, AHC will be applied to any package with a:

Cubic size greater than 8,640 cubic inches

Other existing criteria, such as weight, length, width, and packaging, remain in place.

Zone 7+: $55.00

By Cubic Size:

Zone 2: $28.00
Zone 3–4: $31.00

Zone 3–4: $31.00
Zone 5–6: $36.00
Zone 7+: $38.00

By Width:

Zone 2: $28.00
Zone 3–4: $31.00
Zone 5–6: $36.00

Zone 3–4: $29.00
