USPS Ground Advantage commercial rates: current prices by weight and zone

The short version

  • Weight-based commercial prices are set by weight, rounded up to the next pound above 15.999 oz, and by zone, 1 to 9.
  • The current prices include the holiday adjustment of $0.40 to $7.70 per package, in force from October 4, 2026 until 12:00 a.m. Central Time on January 17, 2027.
  • The published prices already include the temporary 8% increase in force since April 26, 2026. Do not add another 8%.
  • Within each zone, the published weight-based 4 oz, 8 oz, 12 oz and 15.999 oz tiers have had identical prices since July 12, 2026. Negotiated Ground Advantage rates were not affected.
  • Small, dense packages can qualify for cubic pricing, priced by size tier regardless of weight.

USPS Ground Advantage commercial prices depend on weight and zone. With the holiday adjustment in force from October 4, 2026 through January 16, 2027, a package under 1 lb costs $7.33 to zone 1 and $8.95 to zone 9, and a 1 lb package $8.01 to zone 1 and $11.22 to zone 9. These prices already include USPS’s temporary 8% transportation-related increase. Since July 12, 2026, the published weight-based ounce tiers within each zone have identical prices, and packages that qualify for cubic pricing are priced by size instead.

Before you use the tables: the prices shown already include the temporary transportation-related increase. Do not add another 8%. The first table is what applies today, with the holiday adjustment; the second is the underlying July 12 price list.

What a small change costs at volume

A per-package change looks small until it is multiplied. The holiday adjustment of $0.55 on a package up to 3 lb to zones 5 to 9, across 100,000 such packages in the season, adds $55,000. The same arithmetic applies to any USPS price change, and it is why a business comparing carriers should price its actual USPS volume against its negotiated UPS or FedEx costs, including what moving volume does to the discounts on the packages that stay. Our UPS vs USPS comparison sets out that calculation.

Cubic pricing

Commercial Ground Advantage also has cubic pricing for small, dense packages: a package of 1 cubic foot or less, weighing 20 lb or less, with no side longer than 22 inches, can be priced by its size tier instead of its weight. There are ten tiers, from 0.10 to 1.00 cubic foot, and within a tier weight does not change the price. Under the July 12 prices the 0.10 cubic foot tier is $7.45 to zone 1 and $10.13 to zone 8, and the 0.50 tier $9.59 to zone 1 and $18.90 to zone 8, before any holiday adjustment. For heavy items in small boxes, cubic can be well below the weight-based price.

What is scheduled for 2027

As of October 27, 2026: the holiday adjustment and the temporary 8% increase are both scheduled to end at 12:00 a.m. Central Time on January 17, 2027. USPS’s filing includes the prices scheduled to be restored on that date, subject to further action. That restoration is separate from an annual price change: USPS has not announced a new annual change for 2027. Last year it announced its January change in mid-November. We will add any 2027 change here, with a comparison against 2026, when USPS publishes it.

Packages under a pound

Until July 12, 2026, weight-based commercial Ground Advantage priced light packages in ounce bands, so a 4 oz package cost less than a 15 oz one. USPS removed that differentiation from published commercial prices: within each zone, the 4 oz, 8 oz, 12 oz and 15.999 oz tiers now have identical prices, $6.93 to zone 1 and $8.40 to zone 9 at the July 12 prices. That figure is still below the 1 lb price, by $0.68 to zone 1. A light package that qualifies for cubic pricing may cost less again. Shippers with negotiated Ground Advantage rates were not affected by the change.

The rules around the prices

  • Weight. Up to 70 lb. Above 15.999 oz, any fraction of a pound counts as a whole pound.
  • Size. Up to 130 inches in length plus girth. Over 108 inches the oversized price applies whatever the weight; it is in the last row of the tables above.
  • Dimensional weight. Only above 1 cubic foot (1,728 cubic inches), at divisor 166. Below a cubic foot, actual weight governs under weight-based pricing. Our dimensional weight guide compares the carriers’ rules.
  • Nonstandard fees. $4.50 for a package more than 22 inches and up to 30 inches long, $10.00 for more than 30 inches, and $21.00 for more than 2 cubic feet.
  • Extra services. Signature Confirmation is $4.15 electronic; our proof of delivery guide lists the others.
  • Returns. An undeliverable Ground Advantage package is returned at no extra charge; see our return to origin guide.

Parcel Select Ground vs Ground Advantage

USPS retired Parcel Select Ground, along with First-Class Package Service and Retail Ground, when it introduced Ground Advantage in July 2023, so Ground Advantage is the service that replaced it. Parcel Select itself continues as USPS’s destination-entry product, priced by weight with no zone when packages are entered at a facility near the delivery address; our zone skipping guide covers when that pays.

Commercial vs retail Ground Advantage

Commercial prices are available to any business that pays through PC Postage, an IBI meter or a permit imprint, with no contract or volume commitment. Retail prices, paid at a post office counter, are higher, and the holiday adjustment on retail is higher too. Larger shippers can also hold a negotiated agreement with USPS, in which case the published table is not their price.

How Ground Advantage compares with UPS and FedEx

USPS does not separately assess residential, delivery area or weekly indexed fuel surcharges on published Ground Advantage prices, although nonstandard and other applicable fees can still apply. UPS and FedEx do assess those charges, and their agreements can discount heavier packages well below a published price. Our UPS vs USPS comparison works through when each is cheaper and what moving volume does to your other discounts, and our Ground Economy guide compares the three carriers’ economy services.

Frequently asked questions

How much is USPS Ground Advantage commercial?

With the holiday adjustment in force through January 16, 2027: $7.33 for a package under 1 lb to zone 1, $8.01 for 1 lb to zone 1 and $11.22 for 1 lb to zone 9. Those prices already include the temporary 8% increase.

Do I add the 8% increase to the published prices?

No. The published Ground Advantage prices already include the temporary transportation-related increase. During the holiday season, add only the holiday adjustment to the July 12 prices.

Did USPS Ground Advantage prices go up in 2026?

Yes, more than once. Commercial prices rose 9.6% on average on January 18, 2026, a temporary 8% increase began April 26, and a holiday adjustment runs from October 4, 2026 until 12:00 a.m. Central Time on January 17, 2027.

Are 4 oz and 8 oz Ground Advantage prices different?

Not on published weight-based commercial prices: within each zone, the ounce tiers have had identical prices since July 12, 2026. A package that qualifies for cubic pricing is priced by size instead, and retail and negotiated prices may still differ.

What are the USPS Ground Advantage rates for 2027?

The temporary increases are scheduled to end at 12:00 a.m. Central Time on January 17, 2027, and USPS’s filing includes the prices scheduled to be restored on that date, subject to further action. USPS has not announced a separate annual price change for 2027; we will add it here when it does.

Is Parcel Select Ground the same as Ground Advantage?

Parcel Select Ground no longer exists. USPS retired it in July 2023 and replaced it with Ground Advantage. Parcel Select continues as a destination-entry product.

Does USPS Ground Advantage charge dimensional weight?

Only for packages over 1 cubic foot, at divisor 166. Below a cubic foot, actual weight governs under weight-based pricing.

How fast is USPS Ground Advantage?

USPS publishes a standard of 2 to 5 business days within the contiguous United States. It is not guaranteed.
