GOFO fuel surcharge: the 4% rate, what it applies to and when it ends

The short version
- 4% of base delivery rates, across all U.S. regions, effective October 26, 2026.
- A fixed rate, not a weekly table: it does not rise as diesel rises.
- It ends the month after the national diesel average drops below $5.46 a gallon, GOFO’s August 2026 baseline.
- GOFO describes it as an emergency measure for the rest of 2026 and says it will review its pricing framework for 2027.
- No GOFO peak surcharges in 2026, according to the same notice.
GOFO’s fuel surcharge is a 4% Emergency Fuel Surcharge on base delivery rates, applied nationwide from October 26, 2026. Unlike the weekly fuel surcharges at UPS, FedEx and OnTrac, it is a fixed percentage rather than an index: GOFO says it will stay in effect while the U.S. on-highway diesel price remains above its August 2026 baseline of $5.46 a gallon, and will be lifted the month after the national average falls below that level. Before October 26, GOFO had waived fuel surcharges throughout 2026, and it says it is not charging peak surcharges this year.
What GOFO announced
GOFO published the change on October 7, 2026, in a notice to partners. It attributes the surcharge to diesel prices that it says rose about 40% from July, after a year in which it absorbed rising fuel costs and waived standard fuel surcharges.

| 2027 | GOFO says it will evaluate its broader pricing framework for 2027 |

How GOFO’s fuel surcharge compares with UPS, FedEx and OnTrac
The national carriers and OnTrac set fuel weekly from a published table: a fuel price is looked up and the percentage moves with it. GOFO’s 4% does not move. The percentages are very different in size, and they are charged on different amounts, so compare them in dollars on your own packages rather than as percentages.
| Carrier | Fuel surcharge, week of November 2, 2026 | How it is set | Charged on |
|---|---|---|---|
| GOFO | 4.00% | Fixed | Base delivery rates |
| OnTrac, national schedule | 27.00% | Weekly, from the EIA diesel price | The net package rate plus applicable fees and surcharges |
| FedEx Ground and Home Delivery | 29.25% | Weekly, from the U.S. on-highway diesel price | Transportation charges and most surcharges |
| UPS Ground and Ground Saver | 30.25% | Weekly, from the U.S. on-highway diesel price | Transportation charges and most surcharges |

How GOFO’s 4% is calculated
The surcharge is 4% of the base delivery rate. On a package with a $9.00 base delivery rate, it adds $0.36. For comparison only, a 27.00% surcharge on the same $9.00 would add $2.43, and 30.25% would add $2.72. That is not a price comparison between carriers: their base rates differ, and UPS, FedEx and OnTrac apply fuel to more than the base rate. The useful comparison is the full cost of the same package with each carrier, base rate, surcharges and fuel together.
When the surcharge ends
GOFO ties the end date to one number: the national average U.S. on-highway diesel price against its August 2026 baseline of $5.46 a gallon. If the average drops below that level, GOFO says the surcharge will be lifted the following month. The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s national average for the week of November 2, 2026 was $6.292 a gallon, about 15% above the threshold. EIA publishes the figure weekly, so the comparison can be checked at any time. GOFO also describes the surcharge as a measure for the remainder of 2026 and says it will review its pricing framework for 2027.
Why the fuel surcharge on your GOFO invoice may differ from 4%
Many shippers buy GOFO delivery through a shipping platform, a fulfillment provider or a reseller rather than directly. Those sellers publish their own rate cards, and some list a different fuel percentage for some GOFO products, such as GOFO Express and GOFO Ground. GOFO’s notice also says it is not imposing peak surcharges in 2026, but a platform’s rate card can carry its own peak charges, particularly on products where another carrier makes the final delivery. If your invoice shows a figure other than 4%, check which GOFO product the package shipped under and which rate card governs your account; GOFO directs account-specific questions to your GOFO account representative.
What to check on a GOFO invoice
- The rate. GOFO describes the surcharge as a single nationwide 4%. A different figure usually means a platform or reseller rate card, which is worth confirming.
- It is on the base delivery rate. GOFO’s notice says the 4% applies to base delivery rates. Check whether your invoices also apply it to other charges.
- The start date. Packages shipped before October 26, 2026 should not carry it.
- Your own terms. GOFO points partners to their account representative for account-specific questions, and a platform or reseller account may carry its own terms. Read the terms that govern your account.
Who GOFO is
GOFO describes itself as a U.S.-founded, technology-driven last-mile delivery carrier for e-commerce platforms and brands. It states that its U.S. network covers more than 12,000 ZIP codes and reaches 75% of the population, and it also delivers in Canada, France, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain. Shippers often reach GOFO through shipping platforms and fulfillment providers rather than a direct agreement. GOFO’s Netherlands site describes a separate monthly energy surcharge for the Dutch market; it does not apply to U.S. shipments.
Adding a regional carrier is a decision about total cost per package, not about one surcharge. The figure any alternative has to beat is what your UPS or FedEx agreement actually costs you per package today, and our free contract review works that out from your invoices.
Frequently asked questions
What is GOFO’s current fuel surcharge?
A 4% Emergency Fuel Surcharge on base delivery rates, applied across all U.S. regions from October 26, 2026. It is a fixed percentage, not a weekly index.
When does the GOFO emergency fuel surcharge take effect?
October 26, 2026. GOFO announced it in a notice to partners dated October 7, 2026.
Is GOFO’s fuel surcharge calculated on the base rate or the full shipment cost?
On the base delivery rate, according to GOFO’s notice. On a $9.00 base delivery rate, 4% is $0.36.
When will GOFO remove the fuel surcharge?
GOFO says the surcharge will be lifted the month after the national average U.S. on-highway diesel price drops below its August 2026 baseline of $5.46 a gallon. It also says it will review its pricing framework for 2027.
Did GOFO charge a standard fuel surcharge earlier in 2026?
No. GOFO says it absorbed rising fuel costs and waived standard fuel surcharges across its service network during 2026, until the emergency surcharge took effect on October 26.
Does GOFO charge a peak season surcharge in 2026?
GOFO’s October 7, 2026 notice states that it is not imposing any peak surcharges in 2026. A shipping platform or reseller can still set its own peak charges on the GOFO products it sells, so check the rate card for your account.
Why is the fuel surcharge on my GOFO invoice different from 4%?
Usually because the package was billed under a platform or reseller rate card, or under a GOFO product with its own pricing. Check which product the package shipped under and which rate card governs your account.
Is GOFO’s fuel surcharge lower than UPS and FedEx?
As a percentage, much lower: 4% against 30.25% at UPS Ground and 29.25% at FedEx Ground in the week of November 2, 2026. The carriers charge fuel on different amounts and have different base rates, so compare the total cost of the same package rather than the percentages.
Does GOFO update its fuel surcharge every week?
No. In the U.S., the emergency surcharge is a single fixed 4%, not a weekly table. The monthly energy surcharge index on GOFO’s Netherlands site applies to the Dutch market only.
