The two published columns are FedEx Freight’s FXF 100-Y Rules Tariff, effective January 5, 2026, and Old Dominion’s accessorial sheet based on ODFL 100-Q, effective October 5, 2026. They price the same delivery differently: FedEx Freight charges a flat residential fee and a per-hundredweight liftgate with a $207 floor, while Old Dominion prices a residence under its limited-access item at $7.20 per cwt with a $125 floor and a $4.40 per cwt liftgate with a $115 floor, so on a light shipment the floors decide. Neither figure is what a contract shipper pays; most agreements discount or cap accessorials, and some waive liftgate or residential entirely, which is what the third column is for. Fuel surcharge may apply on top under each tariff, and charges for redelivery, reconsignment, detention and reweighs are not estimated here.

Why this mattersThese results use published data. Your agreement may include different rates and terms.

What extra fees should I include in an LTL quote?

The accessorial charges to include in an LTL quote follow from the delivery: a home or a business run from one draws a residential charge; a school, church, construction site, military base, storage unit, mine or airport draws a limited-access charge; a site without a dock or forklift usually needs a liftgate; a call or appointment before delivery and carrying freight past the truck each add a charge. There is no universal price. Under the FedEx Freight 100-Y rules tariff a liftgate is $13.96 per hundredweight with a $207 minimum and a residential delivery is $243; under Old Dominion’s ODFL 100-Q a liftgate is $4.40 per hundredweight with a $115 minimum and a residence is priced under the limited-access item at $7.20 per hundredweight with a $125 minimum. A 1,200 lb residential liftgate delivery is $450 at one and $240 at the other before any contract discount, which is why the amounts in your own agreement are the ones to quote from.

Worked example

A 1,200 lb shipment delivered to a home with no dock, no appointment and no inside delivery draws two accessorials: residential delivery and liftgate. Under FedEx Freight 100-Y that is $243 for the residence and $207 for the liftgate, because $13.96 per hundredweight on 12 cwt is $167.52 and the $207 minimum applies: $450 in all. Under ODFL 100-Q the residence is charged under the limited-access item, $7.20 per hundredweight with a $125 minimum, and the liftgate $4.40 per hundredweight with a $115 minimum; both floors bind on 12 cwt, so the total is $240. The same delivery, $210 apart, before either carrier’s contract discount.

Published rates, not your agreement

Two published tariffs, not a survey of every carrier, and contract shippers rarely pay the published amount: agreements discount, cap or waive these charges, which is what the third column is for. The questions decide which services apply on the carriers’ published definitions; a carrier decides on the day, and limited-access lists differ in detail. Fuel surcharge on accessorials, redelivery, reconsignment, detention, reweigh and reclassification charges are not estimated.
